At CALAF Grup, environmental sustainability is not just an objective, but the basis of our growth model. Our commitment to environmental protection translates into concrete, measurable and auditable actions that encompass the entire cycle of our projects, from design to execution and maintenance.
We work towards the decarbonization of the sector, developing our own innovation projects for CO₂ compensation. In addition, we promote improvements in energy efficiency through regulated audits, fleet electrification, photovoltaic plants and energy saving certification systems.
Environmental monitoring on the construction sites is complete, with waste, biodiversity and environmental quality monitoring systems that meet the most demanding standards. This effort has been recognized with certifications such as EMAS and the EcoVadis medals obtained by CALAF Constructora and SEROM.
Every action, every project and every decision responds to a clear commitment: to build a cleaner, more efficient and more respectful future for the planet.
Monitoring and follow-up
of CO2 on site
CALAF Grup is working to implement the ISO 14064, an international standard that establishes the bases for accrediting and guaranteeing the calculations made for the disclosure of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) of organizations. This standard stipulates the monitoring of Scope 1, 2, including Scope 3 emissions. This means the monitoring of any energy consumption of transport and construction work of all its suppliers. To do this, CALAF is establishing a process that takes its value chain into account, both with the suppliers themselves and with its customers (upstream and downstream). This process includes training, collaborative work and the implementation of a single format to collect data.
Furthermore, CALAF Grup is working to achieve a CO2 emissions accounting in the design phase that allows all its clients to have a record from which they can work on the proposal of alternative, low-emission construction systems that favor possible compensation (NetZero).
Decarbonization.
CO2 reduction and compensation
CALAF Grup’s Sustainability Department works on CO2 compensation projects through the PAS 2060 and ISO 14068 standards, as an audited process that helps developers achieve carbon neutrality throughout their project.
CALAF Grup’s commitment is to comply with the CO2 accounting requirements of Miteco (Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge) and the process of implementing the “Reduce Plan” for the progressive and planned reduction of emissions from all activities linked to the group.
CALAF Grup is developing an innovation project in the field of carbon fixation in agricultural soil, with the dual functionality: Recovery of abandoned agricultural land, as well as the use of forest and agricultural land through forestry, and compensation for emissions generated by the group’s activities.
How we work
energy efficiency?
In the continuous search for improvement in energy consumption, the Group has carried out the Energy Audit in accordance with Royal Decree 56/2016 of February 12, which transposes Directive 2012/27/EU of the European Parliament and of the European Council on energy efficiency.
As a basic tool to know the real energy consumption, the improvement measures that are already being carried out are established:
• Improving the vehicle fleet to make way for electrification and the gradual withdrawal of fossil fuels
• Monitoring for constant optimization of the performance of the Group’s three photovoltaic production plants
• Establishment and implementation of Energy Saving Certificates (CAE)
Complete
environmental surveillance
CALAF Grup takes a step forward in the environmental monitoring of a construction company, surpassing the basic concepts of ISO 14001.
It has developed a system for checking biodiversity elements and the impact of special waste, with the aim of avoiding contamination of any environmental vector of the work. It has adapted environmental monitoring to the requirements of BREEAM monitoring plans, LEED erosion and sedimentation control plans, and indoor air quality during execution according to certificates such as DGNB, Passivhaus or VERDE. It has also implemented a system for monitoring and traceability of the waste generated, guaranteeing a recovery of more than 75% of all estimated fractions.
Finally, it meets the DNSH (Do No Significant Harm) requirements to comply with the European Green Taxonomy directive.
We work on certifications
in sustainability
ECOVADIS
EcoVadis is a global international sustainability rating platform that evaluates the environmental, social and ethical performance of companies, especially in the context of the supply chain. It is widely used by large companies to evaluate their suppliers on sustainability criteria. For the first time in July 2024 CALAF Constructora achieved a Bronze medal and at the beginning of January 2025 SEROM achieved it as well. In this way, the 2 largest companies in the group have seen their particular commitment to sustainability recognized.
EMAS
EMAS (Environmental Management and Audit Scheme) is a voluntary tool of the European Union that allows organizations to evaluate, manage and improve their environmental performance in a continuous and transparent manner. For more than 10 years, CALAF Constructora has been recognized for its commitment to the environment.
LEED / BREEAM
WELL / DGNB
There are different Certifications in the field of sustainable building (LEED, BREEAM, WELL, DGNB…) that guarantee our clients and stakeholders the quality of sustainability of our projects. In recent years, different works have achieved this certification, allowing us to position ourselves also in the field of carrying out projects with great environmental quality.
